Site History
So you want to know the history of Capes and Crusaders? Or even a little more about your webmistress? Cool! It's not everything of course, but a little bit that I remember or gathered from others. If you want your input, let me know via DM or e-mail.
Backstory
When I first started playing online TCGs there wasn't really any comic related TCGs (this was mid-2000s). However there were two that had been around before I started playing - Marvel-lous and Mutant High. Sometime later Gotham City, a Batman TCG appeared. I wish I had a card from this TCG - I loved it! It eventually closed. I did start The X-Factor, an X-Men TCG under the name Stephanie. I lost the ability to create gifs (the site I made it with disappeared and I think lack of member interest made it close in the end. Maybe due to a computer crash... I can't quite remember). Plus I grew to hate the template - it was a lot of work and too small - I think the process I did was double what I do now. I also at one point had a Pokemon TCG.
Creation & First Run
I left TCG world for a year or two and then got back into the swing of things under LadyWolf, this was around 2010. After posting the suggestion at Exposure Forums, I decided to actually go for it - with a general all comics TCG this time because I wanted a place where I and others could collect the different kinds - not just the movies or the cartoons or just the comics as much as people suggested to just focus on a particular kind. I picked to two largest comic related brands because those are the most familiar to me and I love them both. Thus Capes and Crusaders was started and was opened October 18, 2011 and hosted by needtakehave. It eventually went on hiatus in February 2013 and remained so until needtakehave.com went down. I always had plans to reopen it because I missed it.
Second Run
It FINALLY reopened on December 26, 2016 hosted by the lovely Mousey and then eventually by the amazing Nina. It did eventually close/go on hiatus by or around October 2017 due to domain going down, coding errors and various other reasons.
Third Run
Third times the charm, isn't that the saying? Honestly I just miss the TCG world and I know it's a lot smaller than it was even just a few years ago and we never really had a large member base like some other Anime or other types of online TCGs, but I figured I'd try again, bought myself a domain (actually my old one, muse-insanity.org from ages and ages ago, weirdly enough was available) by December 26th, 2024 with plans to reopen officially for January 2025. I did think about redoing the card template, but honestly, I didn't want to lose all the decks we have already and I still actually like the template.
DC vs Marvel
At this point you might be wondering, which one do I favor? Now some people can decide easily which particular company on what they like. It's not an easy choice for me because I love a lot of things about the two, almost equally if I have to state an opinion. I grew up watching Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, and X-Men animated series which later evolved into Justice League [Unlimited], Teen Titans, and X-Men Evolution and so on. After I got a computer/internet and discovered the different fansites or pages dedicated to information about my favorite characters in the shows/films - I kinda absorbed the information about the various comic book versions - both in enjoyment and disappointment sometimes. When I discovered a comic book store in my early teens, well, I was overjoyed and started collecting as much as I could old issues - mostly Teen Titans and X-Men. Graphic Novels are a miracle and I try to stick with those now, so I'm not always up to date and I don't always have money to spare for it so I'm not picky on which company to buy for - it's just simply whatever I'm interested in at the time. I do try and collect the DVDs of different films, cartoons and TV shows when they are on sale. So Marvel or DC, I don't care, it's mainly about whatever character(s) I'm focused on at the time.
Other Comic Book TCG Templates
Below are a few sample cards from the above TCGs mentioned. This is thanks to In The Cards & TCG Wikia. If anyone has anything to donate or you know of more, that'll be great!
